Clinical Study with Cefoperazone in the Treatment of Infections in Orthopaedic field

Abstract
|
|
|
25 cases of various infections (5 cases of pyogenic arthritis, 4 cases of osteomyelitis, 6 cases of open fracture & open wound, 4 cases of crushing injuries, 3 cases of cellulitis, 3 cases of post op. infection.) treated with Cefoperazone were analyzed to assess the clinical effectiveness. A daily dose of 1.5gm to 5gm was administered for an average of 10.1 days.
The overall satisfactory response rate, which includes excellent & good responses, was 88%.
The satisfactory response rates according to the isolated organisms were : 11 of 11 Staphylococcus species, 4 of 5 Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 6 of 8 E. coli, 1 of 2 β-Haemolytic Streptococcus, 2 of 2 Proteus mirabilis, and 1 of 1 Klebsiella pneumoniae.
There was no drug related abnormal finding in urinalysis and blood chemistry. Any particular side effects except one case of mild dizziness were not noted.
